When Your Coach Is Still Thinking About You at 4am

It’s the early hours of the morning. I’m lying here feeding my baby, and my mind is gently circling back to a client I saw yesterday for the first time.
I’m replaying parts of the session, not just what they said, but how they said it. The tone in their voice when something landed. A pause that signalled to me that something was left unsaid. I wonder how those realisations are settling now, outside the calm of our session and back in the noise of everyday practice life.
So I make a quiet note on my phone - something that might help next time, a thread I want to follow, a question I think might open something up. I find myself sifting through coaching tools and frameworks I’ve gathered over the years, feeling into which ones might serve them best. I never take a one-size-fits-all approach.
This kind of reflection happens usually in moments when the house is still, when no one’s asking me for snacks or a song or a nappy change. The early hours of the morning. In the shower. In the car, usually while the kids are listening to The Wiggles 😂
Those inbetween moments are where my best thinking is done. And often, that thinking is about the people I work with, because their journey matters to me.
Not in a boundaryless, always-on way. But in a spacious, intentional way. I let their stories stay with me for a while.
Because coaching isn’t just what happens in the session.
Yes, during the session I show up fully. I enter your world. I walk alongside you through the messy bits. I hold space when you're unravelling. I reflect back what you can’t yet see. I ask the kind of questions that nudge at old beliefs, stretch perspectives, and open new possibilities.
And in between sessions, I’m still thinking and tuning in.
Coaching isn’t a neat little hour where we chat and then forget about it. It’s a commitment, and a relationship. It’s a place where someone is wholly in your corner, not just during the Zoom call, but throughout the journey.
If you’ve been sitting in a place of “I know something needs to shift, but I’m not sure what kind of support I need”, maybe it’s this.
Someone who sees you, really sees you. Who holds space for your growth.
Growth is hard enough as it is. It’s messy and unpredictable. And with someone commitment to your journey like this, you don’t have to try and scrape through on your own ❤️
Does this sound like something you need?
