Unlocking Inspirational Veterinary Leadership with Rachael Paul
Hello, and thank you for coming here to learn more about me and what I can do for you.
My name is Rachael Paul; I am the founder of Simply Veterinary Coaching which provides coaching to veterinary leaders. My work focuses on the 5 pillars of inspirational leadership: 1) Self-Awareness and Authenticity, 2) Elevating Your Impact, 3) Sustainable Leadership, 4) Creating a Coaching Mindset, and 5) Strategic Recruitment.
Hang around, because at the end of this blog I'll be sharing a valuable leadership insight that will change how you think about, and show up to, your leadership role.
In the meantime, let me tell you more about my work with leaders. My work takes veterinary leaders up the scale from good, to great, to inspirational! I help leaders develop a clear sense of identity, allowing them to make meaningful, values-led decisions and lead with authenticity. I equip leaders to be more memorable and influential, creating happy, inspired, and productive teams that garner respect and trust. I assist leaders in managing their energy, avoiding burnout, and navigating the ever-changing landscape of the veterinary industry with grace and effectiveness. I nurture a coaching mindset in my clients, empowering them to develop their teams and foster growth mindsets for success. And finally, my expertise in successful recruitment enables leaders to build dream teams and strengthen their practice's reputation, reducing recruitment fatigue and costly mistakes.
My passion for veterinary leadership coaching originates from a decade of transformative work in my headhunting firm. We've witnessed first-hand the significant influence of leadership on the lives and wellbeing of veterinary professionals. Through close relationships with vets, we've gained deep insights into the challenges they face, with poor leadership often driving them to leave even comfortable roles. I know a new kind of leadership is being demanded by the profession today, and I'm leading the charge, inspiring veterinary leaders to embrace their roles as agents of positive change, because leaders have to be the change they want to see in the profession.
Valuable Leadership Insight
"Leadership is not about you, yet it's all about you."
The responsibility of a leader is to create more leaders, not more followers. Leaders who make leadership about them and put themselves in the spotlight are stifling the growth of their team; they are creating more followers. To move way from a 'leader-follower' mindset to a 'leader-leader' mindset requires a huge amount of self-awareness, humility, and willingness to grow, for several important reasons:
⦁ You have to be able to recognise your limitations.
⦁ Your role becomes empowering others and humility is necessary to genuinely empower others to lead.
⦁ You must embrace feedback: A humble leader actively seeks input and is willing to adapt based on feedback.
⦁ You are responsible for modelling behaviour: Leaders serve as a role model for their teams, so your thinking and behaviours sets an example for others to follow.
Leadership is not about you; it's about those you serve. However, it's ALL about YOU because it STARTS with YOU.
It's quite common for me to work with leaders who fear putting the spotlight on their team, through fear of losing control, diminishing their importance within the practice, or plain old insecurity because empowering others will highlight their own shortcomings or inadequacies as a leader. This is why personal growth as a leader is so important, and why I do what I do.
