Our Defining Moments
We all have our defining moments that dictate our future and lay the foundation for who we become. I felt drawn to share my defining moment with you as inspiration to connect with yours. Also, I don’t feel I share enough of myself with you in my videos and would like for you to get to know the Rachael behind the video and blog posts.
This is me…
My Defining Moment
I was a high achiever at high school and planned to go all the way in education. But after finishing my GCSE’s I headed off to sixth form only to find 2 weeks later I felt this unignorable urge to leave school (and my family home) aged 16 and find my way in the world. I wanted to experience all that life had to offer and take control of my future.
It went against everything that everyone expected of me, and it could have been the biggest mistake of my life. But I took the leap from learning, to living, and never looked back.
Shaping My Future
It was aged 16 that I learned to follow my intuition; the little voice that speaks within us that nudges us to take the leap, even when our mind tells us not to. I learned to carve my own path, to go after what I wanted, and not to do it the way people say you ‘should’.
It showed me that life was never going to just hand me what I wanted on a plate, I had to create it. I was in the driving seat.
This defining moment on its own is the foundation of both my businesses. Both my veterinary headhunting and coaching businesses are built on the insight of, “If you want a different outcome, you have to try something different”.
How I Serve Others
I’m passionate about creating choices in people’s lives, careers, and businesses. I show people there is another way that exists beyond what their default future is.
I inspire people to have the courage to try something else, even if the “something else” isn’t clear yet.
I recognise that as we get older, this becomes harder and harder to do. Aged 16, I only had myself to worry about. The older you get, the more there is to lose. But that’s where courage comes in, and to this day I intentionally put myself in uncomfortable situations or try new things that will force me into a beginner’s mindset, that place of “not knowing”, so that I can remind myself of the power of taking courageous leaps.
Speaking of courageous leaps, a few months ago I was blessed with the unexpected opportunity to become a foster parent to a young baby; a challenge that the Universe recognised I needed, to take me to the next level of growth, and one that I decided to embrace fully, first and foremost for the baby, but also because it was a challenge I’ve never experienced before. As you can imagine, it has been somewhat of a whirlwind, but a fascinating leap of faith.
So, there you have it. The moment I decided what I wanted my life to look like, and how I wanted to live it.
What is your defining moment?
What has determined who you are now – as a leader, a parent, a friend, a spouse etc.?
